Ann tells Asia One.com how she got started in
“I started with Muay Thai,” she recalls. “I was introduced by my current coach in 2012, fellow ONE fighter AJ “Pyro” Lias Mansor.”
Originally, the Muay Thai regimen was just a way to stay in shape and pick up some tips on self-defense. However, Pyro had other ideas for his pupil.
“He slowly started teaching the team wrestling, which was my introduction to MMA,” she explains, reflecting on her beginnings. “I got hooked and kept coming to class.”
At the time, MMA was still a niche sport in Malaysia. The lack of mainstream attention or female faces proved no deterrent. Osman fell in love with the sport after her introduction to wrestling. There was also one landmark women’s fight that helped push her over the edge.
“Gina Carano was really hot at the time and she had her fight with [Cris] Cyborg,’” she says, citing their 2009 bout. “Women’s MMA was growing. I look up to Gina because she started with Muay Thai. She was a big inspiration and motivated me to train even more.”

This is her second victory in the span of eleven days.

She had an impressive (4-2-0) record as an amateur.

In an interview with BKO Martial Arts, she talks about her start in MMA.

" I started working as a receptionist in a boxing/Muay Thai gym in 2011, and fell in love with training. I had a Muay Thai fight in 2012 and was hooked. I started training Jiu Jitsu after that, and once I got past the learning curve being on the ground felt very natural for me. I consider myself pretty well-rounded now. Everyone has to fight something. I know people have said this better than me. But that’s something very beautiful to me about Martial Arts, it takes this sort of figurative idea and transposes it literally. Every part of training camp is its own little fight. Fighting temptation when you have to lose the weight, have to dehydrate yourself, fighting the exhaustion, the stress, the negative ideas from other people, and worse the ones in your own head… and finally the fight at the end. Will you give up if you’re behind? Will you let yourself be broken, or will you keep moving forward? This is a sport, but it is also life broken down into a very pure form. I’m beyond grateful for the lessons I’m taught in this sport. If I can make a living off it one day, why wouldn’t I?
